Web Hosting Environment

Applications and COM Objects Available to Hosting Customers

The ITX web hosting environment is based on a Microsoft Windows 2000 platform, with Internet Information Server (IIS) as the back-end for web site delivery. We can handle several different types of server code, however, in this enviroment:

  • HTML pages
  • ASP pages
  • Cold Fusion pages
  • PHP pages
  • Perl pages
  • .Net pages

In theory, we can also support any database platform which is ODBC compliant. We are currently hosting SQL 2000 servers, however, for our deluxe hosting customers, and so if you wish to have a robust database back-end we currently provide this infrastructure. You may also use a Microsoft Access database in your web site, or you may ask one of our engineers to point an ODBC connection back to a database hosted on another server on the internet. The latter option, of course, will probably not provide the level of responsiveness that you would normally hope for on a web site.

Web site statistics reporting is performed on a nightly basis using Funnel Web, a reporting tool that compiles relevant statistical data from the IIS logfiles generated by page requests. More robust reporting is available as a service using WebTrends.

We also provide extended functionality on our Microsoft servers through the use of COM objects that have been installed on the server. The following is a complete list of the COM objects that we have installed on the server:

  • Windows Scripting Host (allows access to many system-level functions)
  • Infomentum ActiveFile (www.infomentum.com, for accessing files in the file system)
  • ITX OneWayHash (for hashing passwords)
  • ITX Encryption (for two-way encryption of data)
  • PDF Report Writer Lite (www.fytek.com, allows output of PDF's from web pages)
  • ASPImage (www.serverobjects.com, allows for real-time image manipulation)
  • OCXMail (www.flicks.com, allows the web page to send an email)
  • FCKEditor (www.fckeditor.net, allows for browser-based content editing)
  • W3 Jmail (www.dimac.com, another component which allows emailing)
